How can I tell if a domain name is taken?

Can you host a .net or .org domain?

    Yes. We will attempt to process your domain registration for any domain type which is managed by InterNIC. There are certain restrictions which apply to non-.com domains.

Can you host an .edu domain?

    Yes. To register a .edu domain, you must be a 4-year, degree-granting colleges or university. Assuming you meet these qualifications, DiegoNet can register the domain on your behalf.

Can you host a .us domain?

    To register a ".us" domain, you must be a representative of one of the following: local, county, city, or state government, K-12 school, community college, technical or private school, federal agency, library or museum, or an Indian nation. Please visit USDNR to register .us domains.

Can you host an international domain such as .uk, .mx, or .de?

    Yes. diegonet hosts domains from many different countries, such as .de, .gr, .mx, .th, etc.

    You are responsible for registering the new domain with your local NIC. Answers to common questions about internation domain registration are provided.

What about the new top level domains?

    The new top level domains (TLDs) have not yet been officially released. DiegoNet is committed to providing support for these domains once registration becomes public.

    The proposed TLDs are:
    .arts: for organizations emphasizing cultural and entertainment activities
    .firm: for businesses and commercial enterprises
    .info: for organizations providing information services
    .nom: for individuals who want a personal identifier
    .rec: for organizations emphasizing recreational and entertainment activities
    .store: for retail establishments
    .web: for organizations emphasizing activities related to the world wide web

Are there any naming guidelines for picking a domain name?

    Check the InterNIC FAQ. In short, domain names must consist of letters, numbers, and hyphens. Special characters such as the underscore and exlamation mark are not permitted. There is also a length restriction of 26 characters, including the 4 characters which identify the top level domain (i.e. '.com').

How long does it usually take to process my domain name registration?

    InterNIC usually takes 1-2 days, excluding weekends, to register a new domain. It can take as long as a week, based on InterNIC response time.

    Domain transfers usually take 4-5 days, excluding weekends. Contact us for information on performing a seamless transfer.

Who owns the domain name when I register through DiegoNet?

    You do. When DiegoNet registers your domain name, we list you as the "administrative contact." This is the person, according to InterNIC, which owns the domain. You are free to change, modify, or delete your domain name by corresponding directly with InterNIC, or by sending your request directly to us. DiegoNet will be listed as your "technical contact."

What does the $70 InterNIC fee cover?

    InterNIC, the domain registration facility in the United States, charges $35 per year to maintain .com, .net, and .org domains. Initial domain registration costs $70, and covers the first two years of domain ownership. InterNIC fees are non-refundable. For more information about InterNIC, visit their web site.

How long does it take the world to see my new "yourname.com" domain name?

    About 80% of the internet will be able to see your domain name within 48 hours of InterNIC registration. The domain name will "trickle down" to the rest of the world within a week. The actual times vary with the overall loads of the internet, DNS caching (enabled by some administrators around the world), and other variables.

How long does it take the world to see my new "yourname.DiegoNet.com" domain name?

    For about 99% of the internet, it should take less than an hour.
